New Clients, Inc.CEO’s Corner: NCI’s unofficial mascot passes away to greener pastures
At NCI, we love our clients—and we love our pets. If you’re lucky enough to be a pet parent, you know first-hand how quickly our furry companions become part of the family.
Sadly, my son, Chris, and his wife, Kathy, had to say good-bye to their dog, Daisy, who passed away on August 1. She brought us all endless love and joy for 12.5 years.
During Daisy’s early years, Chris and Kathy would bring her to work when we operated out of our Mullica Hill, NJ office—and she quickly became part of the NCI team. Not surprisingly, Daisy found an abundance of attention (and treats) among the staff. She would methodically make her way to each team member’s desk for some petting and, of course, a little doggie snack.
Like many dogs, Daisy knew how to work a room and how to work on our emotions. She had the sweetest disposition of any dog I’ve known. She would sit quietly at our feet and look up with that irresistible look in her eyes that would always yield the results she wanted: a little attention and a goodie. Not surprisingly, she soon became NCI’s unofficial mascot.
In return for all of our attention and treats, Daisy gave us unconditional love. She captured the hearts of everyone in the office—and she brightened every day she spent with us. Even though our ability to be together changed with the onset of Covid, my wife and I would still enjoy visits with Daisy at our home in the North Carolina mountains. As she did in the office, she would brighten our days with her loving and lovely disposition.
Just like people, dogs seem to have one thing they do not like, and Daisy was no exception. She did not like to be left behind when we all went out to dinner—and she let us know about it when we returned home. She would bark loudly at us for a good five minutes until Chris calmed her down (her version of chewing us out). Fortunately, Daisy had a forgiving heart, because when the temper tantrum ended, she went back to being the loving companion we all adored.
Dogs like Daisy have the amazing ability to bring so much joy, love, and happiness into our lives. All they ask in return is for us to love and care for them. Her passing has left a hole in our hearts. I know time will eventually heal us, but we will never forget what a special companion she was to us and the smiles and the love she brought our hearts.
